Transportation Services

ESL Transportation: The Portland Public Schools provides educational resources for ESL (English Second Language) students at several different schools. Reiche Elementary School, Riverton Elementary School, Hall Elementary School, Baxter Elementary School, King Middle School, Lincoln Middle School and Portland High School are the current ESL centers.

Transportation is provided under the following criteria:

High School:
  • All ESL students over two miles from Portland High School
  • All ESL students eligible by normal exception area
  • All first year ESL students not eligible by exception area but on a current bus route

Middle School:

  • All ESL students crossing district lines to attend King or Lincoln Middle Schools
  • All ESL students eligible by normal distance standards
  • All first year ESL students not eligible by distance standards but on a current bus route

Elementary School:

  • All ESL students crossing district lines to attend an assigned center
  • All ESL students eligible by normal distance standards
  • All first year ESL students not eligible by distance standards but on a current bus route

Bus schedules are mailed to all elementary students approximately three weeks before the start of school. Schedules include bus number, bus stop, and times. Middle school and high school schedules are made available to each student for the new school year in June of each year. Schedules are also posted at each high school and middle school or available by contacting Transportation Services at 874-8240.

ESL elementary schedules with students crossing district lines generally change on a frequent basis during the year as students are added and dropped. High school and middle school schedules are less subject to change because of the large number of consolidated stops involved.
